Paul's Bio
Paul Sweeney is a son of God, husband, father, and friend who has practiced law in the great state of Indiana for 28 years. A longtime Carmel resident, Paul is a passionate community leader, volunteer, and advocate for youth and the legal profession. Throughout his professional career, he has dedicated his time and expertise to serving various nonprofits and his church.
Paul brings a depth of legal experience that spans nearly three decades, including more than 60 civil jury trials, bench trials, and arbitration hearings. He currently serves as Senior Counsel at Ice Miller LLP in Indianapolis, where he has worked since 2006, previously holding the role of Of Counsel. As a member of the firm’s Workplace Solutions Group, Paul focuses on labor and employment law and has been active in both the Employment Litigation and Trade Secret/Non-Compete groups. Notably, Paul argued before the Indiana Supreme Court in Brown v. Bucher and Christian Consulting, Inc., a case involving employment and business litigation. He has also been recruited to represent federal prisoners in personal injury cases under S.D. Ind. Local Rule 87.
Prior to his time at Ice Miller, Paul was a partner at Harrison & Moberly LLP, where his practice focused on nursing home and assisted living facility litigation, insurance defense, general civil litigation, and appellate work. He began his legal career as an associate with the firm after graduating from law school.
Paul’s legal foundation was built through meaningful early-career experiences, including an internship with Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard at the Indiana Supreme Court, a research fellowship in education law under Professor Michael Heise at the IU McKinney School of Law, and clerkships with Kightlinger & Gray LLP, Mayflower Transit, Inc., and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
As a Superior Court Judge in Hamilton County, Paul will continue the outstanding tradition of promoting safety, security, and fairness across the judiciary. He brings with him not only a strong command of commercial, business, and civil law, but also a vision to expand the county’s problem-solving courts—particularly in the area of mental health. As our community continues to grow, Paul believes the bench must grow with it, both in capacity and in legal perspective. His unique combination of trial experience, legal scholarship, and community service makes him well-prepared to serve with integrity and excellence.
